Overview

Experience Bhutan’s unique high-altitude cultural celebration at the Royal Highland Festival, held annually in the remote village of Laya in Gasa District around October 23–24. The festival honors the traditions of the Layap highland community and promotes sustainable livelihoods under the patronage of His Majesty the King. Set at nearly 4,000 meters, it features vibrant mask dances, yak competitions, traditional songs (Auley), and local products like yak wool textiles, herbs, and dairy items. The journey also includes visits to Bhutan’s scenic valleys, historic dzongs, monasteries, and the iconic Tiger’s Nest, offering a rich cultural experience.
