The Snowman Trek is regarded as one of the world’s most demanding high-altitude treks, extending beyond the Laya–Gasa route deep into the remote Himalayas of Bhutan. Designed for experienced trekkers, it offers a true test of endurance and adventure.The journey passes through isolated Lunana villages, dramatic mountain ridges, and some of the highest passes in the region, revealing raw alpine landscapes and unique vegetation. The trek can conclude either in Sephu (Trongsa) or in Dur (Bumthang), depending on the chosen route. Camp nights are often above 5,300 m, with occasional snow conditions. Best season: September and October.

DAY 1 ARRIVAL IN PARO
Bhutan

The flight into Paro offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan range and is considered one of the most beautiful mountain flights. After landing, enjoy the fresh mountain air before completing arrival formalities. You will then be greeted by our representative and driven to your hotel.

If time allows, enjoy a brief visit to Paro Rinpung Dzong and a short introduction walk through Paro town. Paro is a peaceful valley town situated at 2,280 m along the Pa Chhu River and is known for its fertile land, history, and traditional Bhutanese culture.

Paro Rinpung Dzong, dating back to 1645, is an outstanding example of Bhutanese architecture and serves as the administrative and monastic center of the district.

DAY 2 VISIT TIGERS NEST (Taktshang)
Takin Reserve

After breakfast, we begin the hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), one of the most iconic and awe-inspiring landmarks in Bhutan. Dramatically perched on a sheer cliff about 900 meters above the Paro Valley, Taktsang is a sacred site where Guru Padmasambhava is believed to have meditated in the 8th century. The round-trip hike to the monastery typically takes 4 to 6 hours, depending on your fitness level, and rewards you with breathtaking views of pine forests, prayer flags, and the valley below.

DAY 3 PARO TO SHINGKARAP (TREK START)
Punakha

After enjoying a wholesome breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Zangkipang where the trek begins. The trail is gentle and climbs gradually alongside the Paro River, passing through forests of pine and rhododendron. After about two to three hours of walking and crossing a few small streams, you will arrive at Shingkarap. This open area, with a single traditional house, is commonly used by mountain people as a resting and eating place during their journeys. A short walk further leads you to the campsite, located at an altitude of 3,110 meters.

DAY 4 SHINGKARAP TO SOI THANGKA
Punakha Valley

15Km| 6-7 Hours | 650M Ascent | Camp Alt 3670M

The path stays close to the Paro River, rising and falling as it passes through pine, oak, and spruce trees. After crossing a small bridge, you will stop for a warm lunch on the left side of the river. The walk then continues uphill through rhododendron bushes, following the river once more. Crossing another bridge brings you to the campsite, which is set at 3,750 meters.

DAY 5 SOI THANGKA TO JANGOTHANG
Punakha Valley

17Km | 4-5 Hours | 290M Ascent| Camp Alt 4040M

Today’s trek is shorter in distance but involves a steady climb as the trail rises above the forest line. From the campsite, you walk uphill to an army post and then continue along the river in open terrain with wide mountain views. The path can be muddy in places and passes a mani wall before reaching highland areas where yaks graze. Lunch will be served at a yak herder’s hut. After lunch, the trail passes the settlements of Soe and Takethang, where people grow crops such as barley, potatoes, and turnips. The final walk crosses open ground and follows a stream to Dangochang village, leading to the campsite at Jangothang at 4,040 meters. From here, you can enjoy excellent views of Mount Jomolhari and Jichu Drake.

DAY 6 EXPLORATION AND ACCLIMATION DAY OF JANGOTHANG
Punakha Valley

Today is dedicated to letting your body adjust to the altitude. You can take a gentle exploration to the north of camp for about four hours, walking across open slopes until you are rewarded with views of Mt. Jichu Drakye (6,989 m). For those feeling adventurous, a higher climb up to 4,895 m—taller than Mont Blanc—offers spectacular sights of Mount Jomolhari. This area is rich in wildlife and unique plants, such as blue sheep, golden eagles, griffon vultures, Himalayan rhubarb, and the rare blue poppy. Jangothang is a broad grassy plateau with the remains of an old fortress, lying under the shadow of the towering peaks. Due to the high altitude, rest is recommended, but whether you choose to hike or stay at camp, the day will be remarkable.

DAY 7 JANGOTHANG TO LINGSHI
Punakha Valley

18Km | 6-7 Hours | 790M Ascent | 860M Descent | Camp Alt 4010M

Follow the stream and cross a bridge to begin the climb. Reach a ridge with spectacular views of Jumolhari, Jichu Drake, and Tsherim Gang. Continue through the valley to Ngye La Pass (4,700 m) descend gently to the campsite at 4,010 m overlooking Lingshi Dzong.

DAY 8 Lingshi to Chebisa
Punakha Valley

12Km | 5-6Hours | 210M Ascent l 340M Descent | Camp Alt 3880M

Explore Lingshi Dzong, perched on a hill with stunning views of green valleys, the river, and surrounding peaks. Once a pilgrim stops and fortress, the walk is easy, passing villages and yak camps. After lunch, continue to Chebisa village with its clear waterfall and camp by the stream at 3,850 sm.

DAY 9 Chebisa to Shoumuthang
Punakha Valley

17Km | 6-7 Hours | 620M Ascent | 520M Descent | Camp Alt 4220M

Climb steeply to Gogu La Pass (4,500 m), often spotting blue sheep. Descend through rhododendron to lunch, then continue past streams and yak camps to Shakshepasa (3,980 m). A final climb along the northern valley leads to the campsite by a stream at 4,250 m.

DAY 10 Shoumuthang to Robluthang
Punakha Valley

17Km | 6-7 Hours | 620M Ascent | 590M Descent | Camp Alt 4160M

The trek begins along a trail filled with edelweiss, climbing to Jari La Pass at 4,700 m with views of Kangbum Peak (6,526 m) to the southeast. Descend into Tsarijathang Valley, home to Bhutan’s rare Himalayan Takin. Cross the stream, then ascend to Robluthang, a rocky meadow campsite at 4,200 m.

DAY 11 Robluthang to Lingmithang
Punakha Valley

19Km | 7-8 Hours | 850M Ascent | 870M Descent | Camp Alt 4140M

Today, you cross the highest pass of the trek, Shingchen La (5,005 m), navigating marshy ground, streams, and rocky terrain. At the top, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta (6,840 m). Descend along a narrow valley, crossing streams and cedar forests, to reach Lingmethang (4,140 m), a scenic riverside meadow beneath Tiger Mountain.

DAY 12 Lingmithang to Laya
Punakha Valley

10Km | 3-4 Hours | Camp Alt 3850M

As the day begins, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta Peak from your campsite. The trail to Laya unfolds gently through picturesque landscapes, including damp, green forests blanketed with moss and alive with the calls of birds. Arriving at Laya, you reach one of Bhutan’s highest inhabited villages at 3,800 m, a serene settlement perched among the mountains.Today, you cross the highest pass of the trek, Shingchen La (5,005 m), navigating marshy ground, streams, and rocky terrain. At the top, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta (6,840 m). Descend along a narrow valley, crossing streams and cedar forests, to reach Lingmethang (4,140 m), a scenic riverside meadow beneath Tiger Mountain.

DAY 13 Rest and Explore day at Laya
Punakha Valley

Spend time exploring Laya village and visit local homes. The villagers are very welcoming, often offering tea or Chang (local wine) to visitors. The women are particularly striking, wearing black wool kiras and conical bamboo hats adorned with turquoise, silver, and beads.

DAY 14 Laya to Rodophu
Punakha Valley

19Km | 7-8 Hours | 900M Ascent | 70M Descent | Camp Alt 4160M

The trek descends to the Lunana junction before climbing to a hill with views of the Mo Chhu and Rhodo Chhu. Following the valley through forests and alpine slopes, you reach a rockslide overlooking a glacier on Tsenda Gang (7,100m). Camp is set at Rodophu (4,160m), just past a wooden bridge over the river.

DAY 15 Rodophu to Narithang

Today’s trek passes alpine meadows teeming with yaks, following the river through rhododendron before climbing to Tshomo La Pass (4,915m). Enjoy spectacular views of Mount Jomolhari and the Tibetan border, then cross a high plateau to reach your campsite at Narithang (4,900 m)

DAY 16 Narithang to Tarina
Punakha Valley

18Km | 6-7 Hours | 220M Ascent | 770M Descent | Camp Alt 4350 M

Today’s trek climbs Ganglakarchung Pass (5,120m), offering breathtaking views of Kangbum (6,530m), Tsendhen Gang (7,100m), Teri Gang (7,300m), and Jejegangphu Gang (7,120m). Descend along moraines to a cliff overlooking glaciers that feed two turquoise lakes—one of which caused a 1961 flood in Punakha. Continue down the steep path following Tangchu Stream to reach camp at 4,350m

DAY 17 Tarina to Woche
Punakha Valley

16Km | 5-6 Hours | 250M Ascent | 310M Descent | Camp Alt 4350M

The trail follows the Tangchu River, passing through fragrant juniper forests and sparkling waterfalls along the way. After a gentle climb out of the valley, the path steepens as you approach Woche Village, the first settlement in Lunana at 4,350 m. From the village, the route ahead to Ledhi is clearly visible, offering a glimpse of the journey that awaits tomorrow.

DAY 18 Woche to Ledhi
Punakha Valley

19Km | 6-7 Hours | 300M Ascent | 450M Descent | Camp Alt 4200M

The trek climbs through Woche Valley, crossing a stream and moraine, then descends to a wooden bridge over the Woche Chu River. Passing a glacial lake, you reach Keche La Pass (4,650 m) with views of Jejegangphu Gang. The trail descends into Pochu Valley to Thaga Village (4,050 m), where cold winds are common in autumn. Continuing past scattered settlements and waterfalls along the Phochu River, you arrive at Lhedi (4,200 m), which has a school, health post, and wireless station.

DAY 19 Ledhi to Thanza
Punakha Valley

19Km | 5-6 Hours | 250M Ascent | Camp Alt 4250M

Today’s trek is relatively easy. The trail follows the north bank of the Phochu River, passing small farms before reaching Chuzo Village (4,090 m) around midday. En route, stop to visit Chezo Dzong. Later, the path climbs a steep hill offering views of Thanza Valley at 4,250 m.

DAY 20 Rest Day at Thanza
Punakha Valley

Today offers two options: visit Thanza Village or hike to nearby glacial lakes. Thanza is a traditional, largely untouched village where residents weave their own clothes, craft hats, boots, and jewelry, and lives in stone and wood homes, surviving on grains, yak meat, and cheese. Alternatively, trek over moraines to Raphstreng Tsho and Thorthormi Tsho, the sources of the Phochu River. From here, enjoy views of Table Mountain (Zongphu Gang, 7,100 m) rising 3,000 m above the village.

DAY 21 Thanza to Tshochena
Punakha Valley

18Km | 7-8 Hours | 750M Ascent | Camp Alt 5000M

The trek climbs a rocky hill south of Thanza, then continues with a few hours of easy walking to Danji (4,500m), a summer grazing ground where blue sheep may be spotted. From Danji, ascend a ridge for panoramic mountain views, then walk 20 minutes to the trail junction for Gangkar Phunsum and Tshochena. Take the right-hand trail to Jaze La Pass (5,200 m), offering stunning 360° mountain vistas. Descend from the pass past snow-capped peaks and alpine lakes to reach Tshochena (5,000m).

DAY 22 Tshochena to Jichu Dramo
Punakha Valley

14Km | 5-6 Hours | 170M Ascent | 120M Descent |Camp Alt 5050M

The trek follows the edge of a blue-green lake before climbing to a ridge at 5,150 m, offering 360° views of surrounding snow-capped peaks. In the distance, the road and Dochu La’s microwave tower are visible. The trail undulates over a small rounded hill, passes a glacial lake, and reaches Loju La Pass (5,170 m), a yak pasture with intersecting trails. From here, a small saddle at 5,120 m leads into a broad glacial valley, descending to Jichudramo Camp (5,050 m), the highest campsite on the trek.

DAY 23 Jichu Dramo to Chukarpo
Punakha Valley

15Km | 5-6 Hours | 300M Ascent | 950M Descent | Camp Alt 4400M

The trek ascends a moraine path to the scenic Rinchen Zoe Pass (5,350 m), which separates the Phochu and Mangdechu basins. From here, Gangkar Puensum (7,520 m), Bhutan’s highest peak, is visible, along with the clear boundary between forests and the barren highlands. The descent passes a broad marshy valley dotted with lakes, steep moraine slopes, and yak pastures, leading to Tampe Chu, surrounded by rhododendron and juniper forests. The campsite is at Thongsa Thang (4,400 m), a short distance from Chukarpo.

DAY 24 Chukarpo to Tampetsho
Punakha Valley

19Km | 7-8 Hours | 80M Descent | Camp Alt 4320M

The trek begins with a descent along the right bank of the river to Galapang, a yak pasture at 4,025m. From there, a steep climb through juniper and silver fir forests leads to Tampetsho. The trail follows a stream to a stunning turquoise lake, nestled in a bowl surrounded by steep ridges. Our campsite is at the far end of the lake at 4,320m.

DAY 25 Tampetsho to Maraothang
Punakha Valley

16Km | 4-5 Hours | 280M Ascent | 980M Descent | Camp Alt 3620M

Today’s trek climbs steeply to Tampela Pass (4,600m), where blue sheep are often seen. Descend to Omtsho Lake, famed for Saint Pema Lingpa’s 15th-century treasure discovery. Follow the lake’s shore to its outlet, pass a waterfall to a small lake, then reach the Nika Chu River. Cross a wooden bridge and walk through mixed forests to Maraothang (3,620m), a wide yak-herding campsite and our last night stop.

DAY 26 Maraothang to Nika Chhu Zam
Punakha Valley

20Km | 6-7 Hours | 970M Descent | Camp Alt 2650M

On the final day, the trail gently descends through mixed deciduous and bamboo forests. Continue down through woodland and pastures to a wide grassy area overlooking the motor road and Sephu Village (2,650m), where your vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to Wangdue. Overnight stay at a hotel in Punakha.

DAY 27 Punakha to Thimphu
Punakha Valley

Drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, visiting Punakha Dzong en route, beautifully located between the male and female rivers. Continue via Dochula Pass and check into your hotel. Later, visit Kuenselphodrang to see the 169-ft bronze Buddha statue. Evening at leisure to explore Thimphu. Overnight in Thimphu.

DAY 28 Thimphu to Paro (Departure)

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport, where our representative will warmly see you off and bid you a fond farewell.

From the village, the route ahead to Ledhi is clearly visible, offering a glimpse of the journey that awaits tomorrow.

The trek climbs through Woche Valley, crossing a stream and moraine, then descends to a wooden bridge over the Woche Chu River. Passing a glacial lake, you reach Keche La Pass (4,650 m) with views of Jejegangphu Gang. The trail descends into Pochu Valley to Thaga Village (4,050 m), where cold winds are common in autumn. Continuing past scattered settlements and waterfalls along the Phochu River, you arrive at Lhedi (4,200 m), which has a school, health post, and wireless station.

DAY 19 Ledhi to Thanza

Today’s trek is relatively easy. The trail follows the north bank of the Phochu River, passing small farms before reaching Chuzo Village (4,090 m) around midday. En route, stop to visit Chezo Dzong. Later, the path climbs a steep hill offering views of Thanza Valley at 4,250 m.

DAY 20 Rest Day at Thanza
Punakha Valley

Today offers two options: visit Thanza Village or hike to nearby glacial lakes. Thanza is a traditional, largely untouched village where residents weave their own clothes, craft hats, boots, and jewelry, and lives in stone and wood homes, surviving on grains, yak meat, and cheese. Alternatively, trek over moraines to Raphstreng Tsho and Thorthormi Tsho, the sources of the Phochu River. From here, enjoy views of Table Mountain (Zongphu Gang, 7,100 m) rising 3,000 m above the village.

DAY 21 Thanza to Tshochena
Punakha Valley

The trek climbs a rocky hill south of Thanza, then continues with a few hours of easy walking to Danji (4,500m), a summer grazing ground where blue sheep may be spotted. From Danji, ascend a ridge for panoramic mountain views, then walk 20 minutes to the trail junction for Gangkar Phunsum and Tshochena. Take the right-hand trail to Jaze La Pass (5,200 m), offering stunning 360° mountain vistas. Descend from the pass past snow-capped peaks and alpine lakes to reach Tshochena (5,000m).

DAY 22 Tshochena to Jichu Dramo

The trek follows the edge of a blue-green lake before climbing to a ridge at 5,150 m, offering 360° views of surrounding snow-capped peaks. In the distance, the road and Dochu La’s microwave tower are visible. The trail undulates over a small rounded hill, passes a glacial lake, and reaches Loju La Pass (5,170 m), a yak pasture with intersecting trails. From here, a small saddle at 5,120 m leads into a broad glacial valley, descending to Jichudramo Camp (5,050 m), the highest campsite on the trek.

DAY 23 Jichu Dramo to Chukarpo
Punakha Valley

The trek ascends a moraine path to the scenic Rinchen Zoe Pass (5,350 m), which separates the Phochu and Mangdechu basins. From here, Gangkar Puensum (7,520 m), Bhutan’s highest peak, is visible, along with the clear boundary between forests and the barren highlands. The descent passes a broad marshy valley dotted with lakes, steep moraine slopes, and yak pastures, leading to Tampe Chu, surrounded by rhododendron and juniper forests. The campsite is at Thongsa Thang (4,400 m), a short distance from Chukarpo.

DAY 24 Chukarpo to Tampetsho

The trek begins with a descent along the right bank of the river to Galapang, a yak pasture at 4,025m. From there, a steep climb through juniper and silver fir forests leads to Tampetsho. The trail follows a stream to a stunning turquoise lake, nestled in a bowl surrounded by steep ridges. Our campsite is at the far end of the lake at 4,320m.

DAY 25 Tampetsho to Maraothang

16Km | 4-5 Hours | 280M Ascent | 980M Descent | Camp Alt 3620M

Today’s trek climbs steeply to Tampela Pass (4,600m), where blue sheep are often seen. Descend to Omtsho Lake, famed for Saint Pema Lingpa’s 15th-century treasure discovery. Follow the lake’s shore to its outlet, pass a waterfall to a small lake, then reach the Nika Chu River. Cross a wooden bridge and walk through mixed forests to Maraothang (3,620m), a wide yak-herding campsite and our last night stop.

DAY 26 Maraothang to Nika Chhu Zam
Punakha Valley

20Km | 6-7 Hours | 970M Descent | Camp Alt 2650M

On the final day, the trail gently descends through mixed deciduous and bamboo forests. Continue down through woodland and pastures to a wide grassy area overlooking the motor road and Sephu Village (2,650m), where your vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to Wangdue. Overnight stay at a hotel in Punakha.

DAY 27 Punakha to Thimphu
Punakha Valley

Drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, visiting Punakha Dzong en route, beautifully located between the male and female rivers. Continue via Dochula Pass and check into your hotel. Later, visit Kuenselphodrang to see the 169-ft bronze Buddha statue. Evening at leisure to explore Thimphu. Overnight in Thimphu.

DAY 28 Thimphu to Paro (Departure)

DAY 1 ARRIVAL IN PARO
Bhutan

The flight into Paro offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan range and is considered one of the most beautiful mountain flights. After landing, enjoy the fresh mountain air before completing arrival formalities. You will then be greeted by our representative and driven to your hotel.

If time allows, enjoy a brief visit to Paro Rinpung Dzong and a short introduction walk through Paro town. Paro is a peaceful valley town situated at 2,280 m along the Pa Chhu River and is known for its fertile land, history, and traditional Bhutanese culture.

Paro Rinpung Dzong, dating back to 1645, is an outstanding example of Bhutanese architecture and serves as the administrative and monastic center of the district.

DAY 2 VISIT TIGERS NEST (Taktshang)
Takin Reserve

After breakfast, we begin the hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), one of the most iconic and awe-inspiring landmarks in Bhutan. Dramatically perched on a sheer cliff about 900 meters above the Paro Valley, Taktsang is a sacred site where Guru Padmasambhava is believed to have meditated in the 8th century. The round-trip hike to the monastery typically takes 4 to 6 hours, depending on your fitness level, and rewards you with breathtaking views of pine forests, prayer flags, and the valley below.

DAY 3 PARO TO SHINGKARAP (TREK START)

After enjoying a wholesome breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Zangkipang where the trek begins. The trail is gentle and climbs gradually alongside the Paro River, passing through forests of pine and rhododendron. After about two to three hours of walking and crossing a few small streams, you will arrive at Shingkarap. This open area, with a single traditional house, is commonly used by mountain people as a resting and eating place during their journeys. A short walk further leads you to the campsite, located at an altitude of 3,110 meters.

DAY 4 SHINGKARAP TO SOI THANGKA
Punakha Valley

The path stays close to the Paro River, rising and falling as it passes through pine, oak, and spruce trees. After crossing a small bridge, you will stop for a warm lunch on the left side of the river. The walk then continues uphill through rhododendron bushes, following the river once more. Crossing another bridge brings you to the campsite, which is set at 3,750 meters.

DAY 5 SOI THANGKA TO JANGOTHANG
Punakha Valley

17Km | 4-5 Hours | 290M Ascent| Camp Alt 4040M

Today’s trek is shorter in distance but involves a steady climb as the trail rises above the forest line. From the campsite, you walk uphill to an army post and then continue along the river in open terrain with wide mountain views. The path can be muddy in places and passes a mani wall before reaching highland areas where yaks graze. Lunch will be served at a yak herder’s hut. After lunch, the trail passes the settlements of Soe and Takethang, where people grow crops such as barley, potatoes, and turnips. The final walk crosses open ground and follows a stream to Dangochang village, leading to the campsite at Jangothang at 4,040 meters. From here, you can enjoy excellent views of Mount Jomolhari and Jichu Drake.

DAY 6 EXPLORATION AND ACCLIMATION DAY OF JANGOTHANG
Punakha Valley

Today is dedicated to letting your body adjust to the altitude. You can take a gentle exploration to the north of camp for about four hours, walking across open slopes until you are rewarded with views of Mt. Jichu Drakye (6,989 m). For those feeling adventurous, a higher climb up to 4,895 m—taller than Mont Blanc—offers spectacular sights of Mount Jomolhari. This area is rich in wildlife and unique plants, such as blue sheep, golden eagles, griffon vultures, Himalayan rhubarb, and the rare blue poppy. Jangothang is a broad grassy plateau with the remains of an old fortress, lying under the shadow of the towering peaks. Due to the high altitude, rest is recommended, but whether you choose to hike or stay at camp, the day will be remarkable.

DAY 7 JANGOTHANG TO LINGSHI
Punakha Valley

Follow the stream and cross a bridge to begin the climb. Reach a ridge with spectacular views of Jumolhari, Jichu Drake, and Tsherim Gang. Continue through the valley to Ngye La Pass (4,700 m) descend gently to the campsite at 4,010 m overlooking Lingshi Dzong.

DAY 8 Lingshi to Chebisa
Punakha Valley

12Km | 5-6Hours | 210M Ascent l 340M Descent | Camp Alt 3880M

Explore Lingshi Dzong, perched on a hill with stunning views of green valleys, the river, and surrounding peaks. Once a pilgrim stops and fortress, the walk is easy, passing villages and yak camps. After lunch, continue to Chebisa village with its clear waterfall and camp by the stream at 3,850 sm.

DAY 9 Chebisa to Shoumuthang
Punakha Valley

17Km | 6-7 Hours | 620M Ascent | 520M Descent | Camp Alt 4220M

Climb steeply to Gogu La Pass (4,500 m), often spotting blue sheep. Descend through rhododendron to lunch, then continue past streams and yak camps to Shakshepasa (3,980 m). A final climb along the northern valley leads to the campsite by a stream at 4,250 m.

DAY 10 Shoumuthang to Robluthang
Punakha Valley

17Km | 6-7 Hours | 620M Ascent | 590M Descent | Camp Alt 4160M

The trek begins along a trail filled with edelweiss, climbing to Jari La Pass at 4,700 m with views of Kangbum Peak (6,526 m) to the southeast. Descend into Tsarijathang Valley, home to Bhutan’s rare Himalayan Takin. Cross the stream, then ascend to Robluthang, a rocky meadow campsite at 4,200 m.

DAY 11 Robluthang to Lingmithang
Punakha Valley

19Km | 7-8 Hours | 850M Ascent | 870M Descent | Camp Alt 4140M

Today, you cross the highest pass of the trek, Shingchen La (5,005 m), navigating marshy ground, streams, and rocky terrain. At the top, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta (6,840 m). Descend along a narrow valley, crossing streams and cedar forests, to reach Lingmethang (4,140 m), a scenic riverside meadow beneath Tiger Mountain.

DAY 12 Lingmithang to Laya
Punakha Valley

10Km | 3-4 Hours | Camp Alt 3850M

As the day begins, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta Peak from your campsite. The trail to Laya unfolds gently through picturesque landscapes, including damp, green forests blanketed with moss and alive with the calls of birds. Arriving at Laya, you reach one of Bhutan’s highest inhabited villages at 3,800 m, a serene settlement perched among the mountains.Today, you cross the highest pass of the trek, Shingchen La (5,005 m), navigating marshy ground, streams, and rocky terrain. At the top, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta (6,840 m). Descend along a narrow valley, crossing streams and cedar forests, to reach Lingmethang (4,140 m), a scenic riverside meadow beneath Tiger Mountain.

DAY 13 Rest and Explore day at Laya
Punakha Valley

Spend time exploring Laya village and visit local homes. The villagers are very welcoming, often offering tea or Chang (local wine) to visitors. The women are particularly striking, wearing black wool kiras and conical bamboo hats adorned with turquoise, silver, and beads.

DAY 14 Laya to Rodophu
Punakha Valley

19Km | 7-8 Hours | 900M Ascent | 70M Descent | Camp Alt 4160M

The trek descends to the Lunana junction before climbing to a hill with views of the Mo Chhu and Rhodo Chhu. Following the valley through forests and alpine slopes, you reach a rockslide overlooking a glacier on Tsenda Gang (7,100m). Camp is set at Rodophu (4,160m), just past a wooden bridge over the river.

DAY 15 Rodophu to Narithang

DAY 2 VISIT TIGERS NEST (Taktshang)

After breakfast, we begin the hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), one of the most iconic and awe-inspiring landmarks in Bhutan. Dramatically perched on a sheer cliff about 900 meters above the Paro Valley, Taktsang is a sacred site where Guru Padmasambhava is believed to have meditated in the 8th century. The round-trip hike to the monastery typically takes 4 to 6 hours, depending on your fitness level, and rewards you with breathtaking views of pine forests, prayer flags, and the valley below.

DAY 3 PARO TO SHINGKARAP (TREK START)

After enjoying a wholesome breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Zangkipang where the trek begins. The trail is gentle and climbs gradually alongside the Paro River, passing through forests of pine and rhododendron. After about two to three hours of walking and crossing a few small streams, you will arrive at Shingkarap. This open area, with a single traditional house, is commonly used by mountain people as a resting and eating place during their journeys. A short walk further leads you to the campsite, located at an altitude of 3,110 meters.

DAY 4 SHINGKARAP TO SOI THANGKA
Punakha Valley

The path stays close to the Paro River, rising and falling as it passes through pine, oak, and spruce trees. After crossing a small bridge, you will stop for a warm lunch on the left side of the river. The walk then continues uphill through rhododendron bushes, following the river once more. Crossing another bridge brings you to the campsite, which is set at 3,750 meters.

DAY 5 SOI THANGKA TO JANGOTHANG
Punakha Valley

Today’s trek is shorter in distance but involves a steady climb as the trail rises above the forest line. From the campsite, you walk uphill to an army post and then continue along the river in open terrain with wide mountain views. The path can be muddy in places and passes a mani wall before reaching highland areas where yaks graze. Lunch will be served at a yak herder’s hut. After lunch, the trail passes the settlements of Soe and Takethang, where people grow crops such as barley, potatoes, and turnips. The final walk crosses open ground and follows a stream to Dangochang village, leading to the campsite at Jangothang at 4,040 meters. From here, you can enjoy excellent views of Mount Jomolhari and Jichu Drake.

DAY 6 EXPLORATION AND ACCLIMATION DAY OF JANGOTHANG
Punakha Valley

Today is dedicated to letting your body adjust to the altitude. You can take a gentle exploration to the north of camp for about four hours, walking across open slopes until you are rewarded with views of Mt. Jichu Drakye (6,989 m). For those feeling adventurous, a higher climb up to 4,895 m—taller than Mont Blanc—offers spectacular sights of Mount Jomolhari. This area is rich in wildlife and unique plants, such as blue sheep, golden eagles, griffon vultures, Himalayan rhubarb, and the rare blue poppy. Jangothang is a broad grassy plateau with the remains of an old fortress, lying under the shadow of the towering peaks. Due to the high altitude, rest is recommended, but whether you choose to hike or stay at camp, the day will be remarkable.

DAY 7 JANGOTHANG TO LINGSHI

Follow the stream and cross a bridge to begin the climb. Reach a ridge with spectacular views of Jumolhari, Jichu Drake, and Tsherim Gang. Continue through the valley to Ngye La Pass (4,700 m) descend gently to the campsite at 4,010 m overlooking Lingshi Dzong.

DAY 8 Lingshi to Chebisa
Punakha Valley

Explore Lingshi Dzong, perched on a hill with stunning views of green valleys, the river, and surrounding peaks. Once a pilgrim stops and fortress, the walk is easy, passing villages and yak camps. After lunch, continue to Chebisa village with its clear waterfall and camp by the stream at 3,850 sm.

DAY 9 Chebisa to Shoumuthang
Punakha Valley

17Km | 6-7 Hours | 620M Ascent | 520M Descent | Camp Alt 4220M

Climb steeply to Gogu La Pass (4,500 m), often spotting blue sheep. Descend through rhododendron to lunch, then continue past streams and yak camps to Shakshepasa (3,980 m). A final climb along the northern valley leads to the campsite by a stream at 4,250 m.

DAY 10 Shoumuthang to Robluthang

The trek begins along a trail filled with edelweiss, climbing to Jari La Pass at 4,700 m with views of Kangbum Peak (6,526 m) to the southeast. Descend into Tsarijathang Valley, home to Bhutan’s rare Himalayan Takin. Cross the stream, then ascend to Robluthang, a rocky meadow campsite at 4,200 m.

DAY 11 Robluthang to Lingmithang

Today, you cross the highest pass of the trek, Shingchen La (5,005 m), navigating marshy ground, streams, and rocky terrain. At the top, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta (6,840 m). Descend along a narrow valley, crossing streams and cedar forests, to reach Lingmethang (4,140 m), a scenic riverside meadow beneath Tiger Mountain.

DAY 12 Lingmithang to Laya

As the day begins, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta Peak from your campsite. The trail to Laya unfolds gently through picturesque landscapes, including damp, green forests blanketed with moss and alive with the calls of birds. Arriving at Laya, you reach one of Bhutan’s highest inhabited villages at 3,800 m, a serene settlement perched among the mountains.Today, you cross the highest pass of the trek, Shingchen La (5,005 m), navigating marshy ground, streams, and rocky terrain. At the top, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta (6,840 m). Descend along a narrow valley, crossing streams and cedar forests, to reach Lingmethang (4,140 m), a scenic riverside meadow beneath Tiger Mountain.

DAY 13 Rest and Explore day at Laya
Punakha Valley

Spend time exploring Laya village and visit local homes. The villagers are very welcoming, often offering tea or Chang (local wine) to visitors. The women are particularly striking, wearing black wool kiras and conical bamboo hats adorned with turquoise, silver, and beads.

DAY 14 Laya to Rodophu
Punakha Valley

The trek descends to the Lunana junction before climbing to a hill with views of the Mo Chhu and Rhodo Chhu. Following the valley through forests and alpine slopes, you reach a rockslide overlooking a glacier on Tsenda Gang (7,100m). Camp is set at Rodophu (4,160m), just past a wooden bridge over the river.

Today’s trek climbs Ganglakarchung Pass (5,120m), offering breathtaking views of Kangbum (6,530m), Tsendhen Gang (7,100m), Teri Gang (7,300m), and Jejegangphu Gang (7,120m). Descend along moraines to a cliff overlooking glaciers that feed two turquoise lakes—one of which caused a 1961 flood in Punakha. Continue down the steep path following Tangchu Stream to reach camp at 4,350m

DAY 17 Tarina to Woche

The trail follows the Tangchu River, passing through fragrant juniper forests and sparkling waterfalls along the way. After a gentle climb out of the valley, the path steepens as you approach Woche Village, the first settlement in Lunana at 4,350 m. From the village, the route ahead to Ledhi is clearly visible, offering a glimpse of the journey that awaits tomorrow.

The trek climbs through Woche Valley, crossing a stream and moraine, then descends to a wooden bridge over the Woche Chu River. Passing a glacial lake, you reach Keche La Pass (4,650 m) with views of Jejegangphu Gang. The trail descends into Pochu Valley to Thaga Village (4,050 m), where cold winds are common in autumn. Continuing past scattered settlements and waterfalls along the Phochu River, you arrive at Lhedi (4,200 m), which has a school, health post, and wireless station.

DAY 19 Ledhi to Thanza
Punakha Valley

Today’s trek is relatively easy. The trail follows the north bank of the Phochu River, passing small farms before reaching Chuzo Village (4,090 m) around midday. En route, stop to visit Chezo Dzong. Later, the path climbs a steep hill offering views of Thanza Valley at 4,250 m.

DAY 20 Rest Day at Thanza
Punakha Valley

Today offers two options: visit Thanza Village or hike to nearby glacial lakes. Thanza is a traditional, largely untouched village where residents weave their own clothes, craft hats, boots, and jewelry, and lives in stone and wood homes, surviving on grains, yak meat, and cheese. Alternatively, trek over moraines to Raphstreng Tsho and Thorthormi Tsho, the sources of the Phochu River. From here, enjoy views of Table Mountain (Zongphu Gang, 7,100 m) rising 3,000 m above the village.

DAY 21 Thanza to Tshochena
Punakha Valley

The trek climbs a rocky hill south of Thanza, then continues with a few hours of easy walking to Danji (4,500m), a summer grazing ground where blue sheep may be spotted. From Danji, ascend a ridge for panoramic mountain views, then walk 20 minutes to the trail junction for Gangkar Phunsum and Tshochena. Take the right-hand trail to Jaze La Pass (5,200 m), offering stunning 360° mountain vistas. Descend from the pass past snow-capped peaks and alpine lakes to reach Tshochena (5,000m).

DAY 22 Tshochena to Jichu Dramo
Punakha Valley

The trek follows the edge of a blue-green lake before climbing to a ridge at 5,150 m, offering 360° views of surrounding snow-capped peaks. In the distance, the road and Dochu La’s microwave tower are visible. The trail undulates over a small rounded hill, passes a glacial lake, and reaches Loju La Pass (5,170 m), a yak pasture with intersecting trails. From here, a small saddle at 5,120 m leads into a broad glacial valley, descending to Jichudramo Camp (5,050 m), the highest campsite on the trek.

DAY 23 Jichu Dramo to Chukarpo
Punakha Valley

15Km | 5-6 Hours | 300M Ascent | 950M Descent | Camp Alt 4400M

The trek ascends a moraine path to the scenic Rinchen Zoe Pass (5,350 m), which separates the Phochu and Mangdechu basins. From here, Gangkar Puensum (7,520 m), Bhutan’s highest peak, is visible, along with the clear boundary between forests and the barren highlands. The descent passes a broad marshy valley dotted with lakes, steep moraine slopes, and yak pastures, leading to Tampe Chu, surrounded by rhododendron and juniper forests. The campsite is at Thongsa Thang (4,400 m), a short distance from Chukarpo.

DAY 24 Chukarpo to Tampetsho
Punakha Valley

19Km | 7-8 Hours | 80M Descent | Camp Alt 4320M

The trek begins with a descent along the right bank of the river to Galapang, a yak pasture at 4,025m. From there, a steep climb through juniper and silver fir forests leads to Tampetsho. The trail follows a stream to a stunning turquoise lake, nestled in a bowl surrounded by steep ridges. Our campsite is at the far end of the lake at 4,320m.

DAY 25 Tampetsho to Maraothang
Punakha Valley

16Km | 4-5 Hours | 280M Ascent | 980M Descent | Camp Alt 3620M

Today’s trek climbs steeply to Tampela Pass (4,600m), where blue sheep are often seen. Descend to Omtsho Lake, famed for Saint Pema Lingpa’s 15th-century treasure discovery. Follow the lake’s shore to its outlet, pass a waterfall to a small lake, then reach the Nika Chu River. Cross a wooden bridge and walk through mixed forests to Maraothang (3,620m), a wide yak-herding campsite and our last night stop.

DAY 26 Maraothang to Nika Chhu Zam
Punakha Valley

20Km | 6-7 Hours | 970M Descent | Camp Alt 2650M

On the final day, the trail gently descends through mixed deciduous and bamboo forests. Continue down through woodland and pastures to a wide grassy area overlooking the motor road and Sephu Village (2,650m), where your vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to Wangdue. Overnight stay at a hotel in Punakha.

DAY 27 Punakha to Thimphu
Punakha Valley

Drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, visiting Punakha Dzong en route, beautifully located between the male and female rivers. Continue via Dochula Pass and check into your hotel. Later, visit Kuenselphodrang to see the 169-ft bronze Buddha statue. Evening at leisure to explore Thimphu. Overnight in Thimphu.

DAY 28 Thimphu to Paro (Departure)

The Snowman Trek is regarded as one of the world’s most demanding high-altitude treks, extending beyond the Laya–Gasa route deep into the remote Himalayas of Bhutan. Designed for experienced trekkers, it offers a true test of endurance and adventure.The journey passes through isolated Lunana villages, dramatic mountain ridges, and some of the highest passes in the region, revealing raw alpine landscapes and unique vegetation. The trek can conclude either in Sephu (Trongsa) or in Dur (Bumthang), depending on the chosen route. Camp nights are often above 5,300 m, with occasional snow conditions. DAY 1 ARRIVAL IN PARO
Bhutan

The flight into Paro offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan range and is considered one of the most beautiful mountain flights. After landing, enjoy the fresh mountain air before completing arrival formalities. You will then be greeted by our representative and driven to your hotel.

If time allows, enjoy a brief visit to Paro Rinpung Dzong and a short introduction walk through Paro town. Paro is a peaceful valley town situated at 2,280 m along the Pa Chhu River and is known for its fertile land, history, and traditional Bhutanese culture.

Paro Rinpung Dzong, dating back to 1645, is an outstanding example of Bhutanese architecture and serves as the administrative and monastic center of the district.

Today’s trek is relatively easy. The trail follows the north bank of the Phochu River, passing small farms before reaching Chuzo Village (4,090 m) around midday. En route, stop to visit Chezo Dzong. Later, the path climbs a steep hill offering views of Thanza Valley at 4,250 m.

DAY 20 Rest Day at Thanza
Punakha Valley

Today offers two options: visit Thanza Village or hike to nearby glacial lakes. Thanza is a traditional, largely untouched village where residents weave their own clothes, craft hats, boots, and jewelry, and lives in stone and wood homes, surviving on grains, yak meat, and cheese. Alternatively, trek over moraines to Raphstreng Tsho and Thorthormi Tsho, the sources of the Phochu River. From here, enjoy views of Table Mountain (Zongphu Gang, 7,100 m) rising 3,000 m above the village.

DAY 21 Thanza to Tshochena
Punakha Valley

The trek climbs a rocky hill south of Thanza, then continues with a few hours of easy walking to Danji (4,500m), a summer grazing ground where blue sheep may be spotted. From Danji, ascend a ridge for panoramic mountain views, then walk 20 minutes to the trail junction for Gangkar Phunsum and Tshochena. Take the right-hand trail to Jaze La Pass (5,200 m), offering stunning 360° mountain vistas. Descend from the pass past snow-capped peaks and alpine lakes to reach Tshochena (5,000m).

DAY 22 Tshochena to Jichu Dramo
Punakha Valley

The trek follows the edge of a blue-green lake before climbing to a ridge at 5,150 m, offering 360° views of surrounding snow-capped peaks. In the distance, the road and Dochu La’s microwave tower are visible. The trail undulates over a small rounded hill, passes a glacial lake, and reaches Loju La Pass (5,170 m), a yak pasture with intersecting trails. From here, a small saddle at 5,120 m leads into a broad glacial valley, descending to Jichudramo Camp (5,050 m), the highest campsite on the trek.

DAY 23 Jichu Dramo to Chukarpo
Punakha Valley

The trek ascends a moraine path to the scenic Rinchen Zoe Pass (5,350 m), which separates the Phochu and Mangdechu basins. From here, Gangkar Puensum (7,520 m), Bhutan’s highest peak, is visible, along with the clear boundary between forests and the barren highlands. The descent passes a broad marshy valley dotted with lakes, steep moraine slopes, and yak pastures, leading to Tampe Chu, surrounded by rhododendron and juniper forests. The campsite is at Thongsa Thang (4,400 m), a short distance from Chukarpo.

DAY 24 Chukarpo to Tampetsho
Punakha Valley

19Km | 7-8 Hours | 80M Descent | Camp Alt 4320M

The trek begins with a descent along the right bank of the river to Galapang, a yak pasture at 4,025m. From there, a steep climb through juniper and silver fir forests leads to Tampetsho. The trail follows a stream to a stunning turquoise lake, nestled in a bowl surrounded by steep ridges. Our campsite is at the far end of the lake at 4,320m.

DAY 25 Tampetsho to Maraothang
Punakha Valley

16Km | 4-5 Hours | 280M Ascent | 980M Descent | Camp Alt 3620M

Today’s trek climbs steeply to Tampela Pass (4,600m), where blue sheep are often seen. Descend to Omtsho Lake, famed for Saint Pema Lingpa’s 15th-century treasure discovery. Follow the lake’s shore to its outlet, pass a waterfall to a small lake, then reach the Nika Chu River. Cross a wooden bridge and walk through mixed forests to Maraothang (3,620m), a wide yak-herding campsite and our last night stop.

DAY 26 Maraothang to Nika Chhu Zam
Punakha Valley

20Km | 6-7 Hours | 970M Descent | Camp Alt 2650M

On the final day, the trail gently descends through mixed deciduous and bamboo forests. Continue down through woodland and pastures to a wide grassy area overlooking the motor road and Sephu Village (2,650m), where your vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to Wangdue. Overnight stay at a hotel in Punakha.

DAY 27 Punakha to Thimphu
Punakha Valley

Drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, visiting Punakha Dzong en route, beautifully located between the male and female rivers. Continue via Dochula Pass and check into your hotel. Later, visit Kuenselphodrang to see the 169-ft bronze Buddha statue. Evening at leisure to explore Thimphu. Overnight in Thimphu.

DAY 28 Thimphu to Paro (Departure)

DAY 1 ARRIVAL IN PARO
Bhutan

The flight into Paro offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan range and is considered one of the most beautiful mountain flights. After landing, enjoy the fresh mountain air before completing arrival formalities. You will then be greeted by our representative and driven to your hotel.

If time allows, enjoy a brief visit to Paro Rinpung Dzong and a short introduction walk through Paro town. Paro is a peaceful valley town situated at 2,280 m along the Pa Chhu River and is known for its fertile land, history, and traditional Bhutanese culture.

Paro Rinpung Dzong, dating back to 1645, is an outstanding example of Bhutanese architecture and serves as the administrative and monastic center of the district.

DAY 2 VISIT TIGERS NEST (Taktshang)
Takin Reserve

After breakfast, we begin the hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), one of the most iconic and awe-inspiring landmarks in Bhutan. Dramatically perched on a sheer cliff about 900 meters above the Paro Valley, Taktsang is a sacred site where Guru Padmasambhava is believed to have meditated in the 8th century. The round-trip hike to the monastery typically takes 4 to 6 hours, depending on your fitness level, and rewards you with breathtaking views of pine forests, prayer flags, and the valley below.

DAY 3 PARO TO SHINGKARAP (TREK START)

After enjoying a wholesome breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Zangkipang where the trek begins. The trail is gentle and climbs gradually alongside the Paro River, passing through forests of pine and rhododendron. After about two to three hours of walking and crossing a few small streams, you will arrive at Shingkarap. This open area, with a single traditional house, is commonly used by mountain people as a resting and eating place during their journeys. A short walk further leads you to the campsite, located at an altitude of 3,110 meters.

DAY 4 SHINGKARAP TO SOI THANGKA
Punakha Valley

The path stays close to the Paro River, rising and falling as it passes through pine, oak, and spruce trees. After crossing a small bridge, you will stop for a warm lunch on the left side of the river. The walk then continues uphill through rhododendron bushes, following the river once more. Crossing another bridge brings you to the campsite, which is set at 3,750 meters.

DAY 5 SOI THANGKA TO JANGOTHANG
Punakha Valley

17Km | 4-5 Hours | 290M Ascent| Camp Alt 4040M

Today’s trek is shorter in distance but involves a steady climb as the trail rises above the forest line. From the campsite, you walk uphill to an army post and then continue along the river in open terrain with wide mountain views. The path can be muddy in places and passes a mani wall before reaching highland areas where yaks graze. Lunch will be served at a yak herder’s hut. After lunch, the trail passes the settlements of Soe and Takethang, where people grow crops such as barley, potatoes, and turnips. The final walk crosses open ground and follows a stream to Dangochang village, leading to the campsite at Jangothang at 4,040 meters. From here, you can enjoy excellent views of Mount Jomolhari and Jichu Drake.

DAY 6 EXPLORATION AND ACCLIMATION DAY OF JANGOTHANG
Punakha Valley

Today is dedicated to letting your body adjust to the altitude. You can take a gentle exploration to the north of camp for about four hours, walking across open slopes until you are rewarded with views of Mt. Jichu Drakye (6,989 m). For those feeling adventurous, a higher climb up to 4,895 m—taller than Mont Blanc—offers spectacular sights of Mount Jomolhari. This area is rich in wildlife and unique plants, such as blue sheep, golden eagles, griffon vultures, Himalayan rhubarb, and the rare blue poppy. Jangothang is a broad grassy plateau with the remains of an old fortress, lying under the shadow of the towering peaks. Due to the high altitude, rest is recommended, but whether you choose to hike or stay at camp, the day will be remarkable.

DAY 7 JANGOTHANG TO LINGSHI
Punakha Valley

Follow the stream and cross a bridge to begin the climb. Reach a ridge with spectacular views of Jumolhari, Jichu Drake, and Tsherim Gang. Continue through the valley to Ngye La Pass (4,700 m) descend gently to the campsite at 4,010 m overlooking Lingshi Dzong.

DAY 8 Lingshi to Chebisa
Punakha Valley

12Km | 5-6Hours | 210M Ascent l 340M Descent | Camp Alt 3880M

Explore Lingshi Dzong, perched on a hill with stunning views of green valleys, the river, and surrounding peaks. Once a pilgrim stops and fortress, the walk is easy, passing villages and yak camps. After lunch, continue to Chebisa village with its clear waterfall and camp by the stream at 3,850 sm.

DAY 9 Chebisa to Shoumuthang
Punakha Valley

17Km | 6-7 Hours | 620M Ascent | 520M Descent | Camp Alt 4220M

Climb steeply to Gogu La Pass (4,500 m), often spotting blue sheep. Descend through rhododendron to lunch, then continue past streams and yak camps to Shakshepasa (3,980 m). A final climb along the northern valley leads to the campsite by a stream at 4,250 m.

DAY 10 Shoumuthang to Robluthang
Punakha Valley

17Km | 6-7 Hours | 620M Ascent | 590M Descent | Camp Alt 4160M

The trek begins along a trail filled with edelweiss, climbing to Jari La Pass at 4,700 m with views of Kangbum Peak (6,526 m) to the southeast. Descend into Tsarijathang Valley, home to Bhutan’s rare Himalayan Takin. Cross the stream, then ascend to Robluthang, a rocky meadow campsite at 4,200 m.

DAY 11 Robluthang to Lingmithang
Punakha Valley

19Km | 7-8 Hours | 850M Ascent | 870M Descent | Camp Alt 4140M

Today, you cross the highest pass of the trek, Shingchen La (5,005 m), navigating marshy ground, streams, and rocky terrain. At the top, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta (6,840 m). Descend along a narrow valley, crossing streams and cedar forests, to reach Lingmethang (4,140 m), a scenic riverside meadow beneath Tiger Mountain.

DAY 12 Lingmithang to Laya
Punakha Valley

10Km | 3-4 Hours | Camp Alt 3850M

As the day begins, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta Peak from your campsite. The trail to Laya unfolds gently through picturesque landscapes, including damp, green forests blanketed with moss and alive with the calls of birds. Arriving at Laya, you reach one of Bhutan’s highest inhabited villages at 3,800 m, a serene settlement perched among the mountains.Today, you cross the highest pass of the trek, Shingchen La (5,005 m), navigating marshy ground, streams, and rocky terrain. At the top, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta (6,840 m). Descend along a narrow valley, crossing streams and cedar forests, to reach Lingmethang (4,140 m), a scenic riverside meadow beneath Tiger Mountain.

DAY 13 Rest and Explore day at Laya
Punakha Valley

Spend time exploring Laya village and visit local homes. The villagers are very welcoming, often offering tea or Chang (local wine) to visitors. The women are particularly striking, wearing black wool kiras and conical bamboo hats adorned with turquoise, silver, and beads.

DAY 14 Laya to Rodophu
Punakha Valley

19Km | 7-8 Hours | 900M Ascent | 70M Descent | Camp Alt 4160M

The trek descends to the Lunana junction before climbing to a hill with views of the Mo Chhu and Rhodo Chhu. Following the valley through forests and alpine slopes, you reach a rockslide overlooking a glacier on Tsenda Gang (7,100m). Camp is set at Rodophu (4,160m), just past a wooden bridge over the river.

DAY 15 Rodophu to Narithang

Today’s trek passes alpine meadows teeming with yaks, following the river through rhododendron before climbing to Tshomo La Pass (4,915m). Enjoy spectacular views of Mount Jomolhari and the Tibetan border, then cross a high plateau to reach your campsite at Narithang (4,900 m)

DAY 16 Narithang to Tarina

Today’s trek climbs Ganglakarchung Pass (5,120m), offering breathtaking views of Kangbum (6,530m), Tsendhen Gang (7,100m), Teri Gang (7,300m), and Jejegangphu Gang (7,120m). Descend along moraines to a cliff overlooking glaciers that feed two turquoise lakes—one of which caused a 1961 flood in Punakha. Continue down the steep path following Tangchu Stream to reach camp at 4,350m

DAY 17 Tarina to Woche
Punakha Valley

The trail follows the Tangchu River, passing through fragrant juniper forests and sparkling waterfalls along the way. After a gentle climb out of the valley, the path steepens as you approach Woche Village, the first settlement in Lunana at 4,350 m. From the village, the route ahead to Ledhi is clearly visible, offering a glimpse of the journey that awaits tomorrow.

DAY 18 Woche to Ledhi

The trek climbs through Woche Valley, crossing a stream and moraine, then descends to a wooden bridge over the Woche Chu River. Passing a glacial lake, you reach Keche La Pass (4,650 m) with views of Jejegangphu Gang. The trail descends into Pochu Valley to Thaga Village (4,050 m), where cold winds are common in autumn. Continuing past scattered settlements and waterfalls along the Phochu River, you arrive at Lhedi (4,200 m), which has a school, health post, and wireless station.

DAY 19 Ledhi to Thanza

After lunch, the trail passes the settlements of Soe and Takethang, where people grow crops such as barley, potatoes, and turnips. The final walk crosses open ground and follows a stream to Dangochang village, leading to the campsite at Jangothang at 4,040 meters. From here, you can enjoy excellent views of Mount Jomolhari and Jichu Drake.

DAY 6 EXPLORATION AND ACCLIMATION DAY OF JANGOTHANG
Punakha Valley

Today is dedicated to letting your body adjust to the altitude. You can take a gentle exploration to the north of camp for about four hours, walking across open slopes until you are rewarded with views of Mt. Jichu Drakye (6,989 m). For those feeling adventurous, a higher climb up to 4,895 m—taller than Mont Blanc—offers spectacular sights of Mount Jomolhari. This area is rich in wildlife and unique plants, such as blue sheep, golden eagles, griffon vultures, Himalayan rhubarb, and the rare blue poppy. Jangothang is a broad grassy plateau with the remains of an old fortress, lying under the shadow of the towering peaks. Due to the high altitude, rest is recommended, but whether you choose to hike or stay at camp, the day will be remarkable.

DAY 7 JANGOTHANG TO LINGSHI
Punakha Valley

Follow the stream and cross a bridge to begin the climb. Reach a ridge with spectacular views of Jumolhari, Jichu Drake, and Tsherim Gang. Continue through the valley to Ngye La Pass (4,700 m) descend gently to the campsite at 4,010 m overlooking Lingshi Dzong.

DAY 8 Lingshi to Chebisa
Punakha Valley

12Km | 5-6Hours | 210M Ascent l 340M Descent | Camp Alt 3880M

Explore Lingshi Dzong, perched on a hill with stunning views of green valleys, the river, and surrounding peaks. Once a pilgrim stops and fortress, the walk is easy, passing villages and yak camps. After lunch, continue to Chebisa village with its clear waterfall and camp by the stream at 3,850 sm.

DAY 9 Chebisa to Shoumuthang
Punakha Valley

17Km | 6-7 Hours | 620M Ascent | 520M Descent | Camp Alt 4220M

Climb steeply to Gogu La Pass (4,500 m), often spotting blue sheep. Descend through rhododendron to lunch, then continue past streams and yak camps to Shakshepasa (3,980 m). A final climb along the northern valley leads to the campsite by a stream at 4,250 m.

DAY 10 Shoumuthang to Robluthang
Punakha Valley

The trek begins along a trail filled with edelweiss, climbing to Jari La Pass at 4,700 m with views of Kangbum Peak (6,526 m) to the southeast. Descend into Tsarijathang Valley, home to Bhutan’s rare Himalayan Takin. Cross the stream, then ascend to Robluthang, a rocky meadow campsite at 4,200 m.

DAY 11 Robluthang to Lingmithang

Today, you cross the highest pass of the trek, Shingchen La (5,005 m), navigating marshy ground, streams, and rocky terrain. At the top, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta (6,840 m). Descend along a narrow valley, crossing streams and cedar forests, to reach Lingmethang (4,140 m), a scenic riverside meadow beneath Tiger Mountain.

DAY 12 Lingmithang to Laya

As the day begins, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta Peak from your campsite. The trail to Laya unfolds gently through picturesque landscapes, including damp, green forests blanketed with moss and alive with the calls of birds. Arriving at Laya, you reach one of Bhutan’s highest inhabited villages at 3,800 m, a serene settlement perched among the mountains.Today, you cross the highest pass of the trek, Shingchen La (5,005 m), navigating marshy ground, streams, and rocky terrain. At the top, enjoy breathtaking views of Gangchenta (6,840 m). Descend along a narrow valley, crossing streams and cedar forests, to reach Lingmethang (4,140 m), a scenic riverside meadow beneath Tiger Mountain.

DAY 13 Rest and Explore day at Laya
Punakha Valley

Spend time exploring Laya village and visit local homes. The villagers are very welcoming, often offering tea or Chang (local wine) to visitors. The women are particularly striking, wearing black wool kiras and conical bamboo hats adorned with turquoise, silver, and beads.

DAY 14 Laya to Rodophu
Punakha Valley

The trek descends to the Lunana junction before climbing to a hill with views of the Mo Chhu and Rhodo Chhu. Following the valley through forests and alpine slopes, you reach a rockslide overlooking a glacier on Tsenda Gang (7,100m). Camp is set at Rodophu (4,160m), just past a wooden bridge over the river.

DAY 15 Rodophu to Narithang

Today’s trek passes alpine meadows teeming with yaks, following the river through rhododendron before climbing to Tshomo La Pass (4,915m). Enjoy spectacular views of Mount Jomolhari and the Tibetan border, then cross a high plateau to reach your campsite at Narithang (4,900 m)

DAY 16 Narithang to Tarina

Today’s trek climbs Ganglakarchung Pass (5,120m), offering breathtaking views of Kangbum (6,530m), Tsendhen Gang (7,100m), Teri Gang (7,300m), and Jejegangphu Gang (7,120m). Descend along moraines to a cliff overlooking glaciers that feed two turquoise lakes—one of which caused a 1961 flood in Punakha. Continue down the steep path following Tangchu Stream to reach camp at 4,350m

DAY 17 Tarina to Woche

The trail follows the Tangchu River, passing through fragrant juniper forests and sparkling waterfalls along the way. After a gentle climb out of the valley, the path steepens as you approach Woche Village, the first settlement in Lunana at 4,350 m. From the village, the route ahead to Ledhi is clearly visible, offering a glimpse of the journey that awaits tomorrow.

DAY 18 Woche to Ledhi

The trek climbs through Woche Valley, crossing a stream and moraine, then descends to a wooden bridge over the Woche Chu River. Passing a glacial lake, you reach Keche La Pass (4,650 m) with views of Jejegangphu Gang. The trail descends into Pochu Valley to Thaga Village (4,050 m), where cold winds are common in autumn. Continuing past scattered settlements and waterfalls along the Phochu River, you arrive at Lhedi (4,200 m), which has a school, health post, and wireless station.

DAY 19 Ledhi to Thanza
Punakha Valley

Today’s trek is relatively easy. The trail follows the north bank of the Phochu River, passing small farms before reaching Chuzo Village (4,090 m) around midday. En route, stop to visit Chezo Dzong. Later, the path climbs a steep hill offering views of Thanza Valley at 4,250 m.

DAY 20 Rest Day at Thanza
Punakha Valley

Today offers two options: visit Thanza Village or hike to nearby glacial lakes. Thanza is a traditional, largely untouched village where residents weave their own clothes, craft hats, boots, and jewelry, and lives in stone and wood homes, surviving on grains, yak meat, and cheese. Alternatively, trek over moraines to Raphstreng Tsho and Thorthormi Tsho, the sources of the Phochu River. From here, enjoy views of Table Mountain (Zongphu Gang, 7,100 m) rising 3,000 m above the village.

DAY 21 Thanza to Tshochena
Punakha Valley

The trek climbs a rocky hill south of Thanza, then continues with a few hours of easy walking to Danji (4,500m), a summer grazing ground where blue sheep may be spotted. From Danji, ascend a ridge for panoramic mountain views, then walk 20 minutes to the trail junction for Gangkar Phunsum and Tshochena. Take the right-hand trail to Jaze La Pass (5,200 m), offering stunning 360° mountain vistas. Descend from the pass past snow-capped peaks and alpine lakes to reach Tshochena (5,000m).

DAY 22 Tshochena to Jichu Dramo
Punakha Valley

The trek follows the edge of a blue-green lake before climbing to a ridge at 5,150 m, offering 360° views of surrounding snow-capped peaks. In the distance, the road and Dochu La’s microwave tower are visible. The trail undulates over a small rounded hill, passes a glacial lake, and reaches Loju La Pass (5,170 m), a yak pasture with intersecting trails. From here, a small saddle at 5,120 m leads into a broad glacial valley, descending to Jichudramo Camp (5,050 m), the highest campsite on the trek.

DAY 23 Jichu Dramo to Chukarpo
Punakha Valley

15Km | 5-6 Hours | 300M Ascent | 950M Descent | Camp Alt 4400M

The trek ascends a moraine path to the scenic Rinchen Zoe Pass (5,350 m), which separates the Phochu and Mangdechu basins. From here, Gangkar Puensum (7,520 m), Bhutan’s highest peak, is visible, along with the clear boundary between forests and the barren highlands. The descent passes a broad marshy valley dotted with lakes, steep moraine slopes, and yak pastures, leading to Tampe Chu, surrounded by rhododendron and juniper forests. The campsite is at Thongsa Thang (4,400 m), a short distance from Chukarpo.

DAY 24 Chukarpo to Tampetsho

The trek begins with a descent along the right bank of the river to Galapang, a yak pasture at 4,025m. From there, a steep climb through juniper and silver fir forests leads to Tampetsho. The trail follows a stream to a stunning turquoise lake, nestled in a bowl surrounded by steep ridges. Our campsite is at the far end of the lake at 4,320m.

DAY 25 Tampetsho to Maraothang
Punakha Valley

16Km | 4-5 Hours | 280M Ascent | 980M Descent | Camp Alt 3620M

Today’s trek climbs steeply to Tampela Pass (4,600m), where blue sheep are often seen. Descend to Omtsho Lake, famed for Saint Pema Lingpa’s 15th-century treasure discovery. Follow the lake’s shore to its outlet, pass a waterfall to a small lake, then reach the Nika Chu River. Cross a wooden bridge and walk through mixed forests to Maraothang (3,620m), a wide yak-herding campsite and our last night stop.

DAY 26 Maraothang to Nika Chhu Zam
Punakha Valley

20Km | 6-7 Hours | 970M Descent | Camp Alt 2650M

On the final day, the trail gently descends through mixed deciduous and bamboo forests. Continue down through woodland and pastures to a wide grassy area overlooking the motor road and Sephu Village (2,650m), where your vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to Wangdue. Overnight stay at a hotel in Punakha.

DAY 27 Punakha to Thimphu
Punakha Valley

Drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, visiting Punakha Dzong en route, beautifully located between the male and female rivers. Continue via Dochula Pass and check into your hotel. Later, visit Kuenselphodrang to see the 169-ft bronze Buddha statue. Evening at leisure to explore Thimphu. Overnight in Thimphu.

DAY 28 Thimphu to Paro (Departure)

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport, where our representative will warmly see you off and bid you a fond farewell.

The Snowman Trek is regarded as one of the world’s most demanding high-altitude treks, extending beyond the Laya–Gasa route deep into the remote Himalayas of Bhutan. Designed for experienced trekkers, it offers a true test of endurance and adventure.The journey passes through isolated Lunana villages, dramatic mountain ridges, and some of the highest passes in the region, revealing raw alpine landscapes and unique vegetation. The trek can conclude either in Sephu (Trongsa) or in Dur (Bumthang), depending on the chosen route. Camp nights are often above 5,300 m, with occasional snow conditions. DAY 1 ARRIVAL IN PARO
Bhutan

The flight into Paro offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan range and is considered one of the most beautiful mountain flights. After landing, enjoy the fresh mountain air before completing arrival formalities. You will then be greeted by our representative and driven to your hotel.

If time allows, enjoy a brief visit to Paro Rinpung Dzong and a short introduction walk through Paro town. Paro is a peaceful valley town situated at 2,280 m along the Pa Chhu River and is known for its fertile land, history, and traditional Bhutanese culture.

Paro Rinpung Dzong, dating back to 1645, is an outstanding example of Bhutanese architecture and serves as the administrative and monastic center of the district.

Overnight stay at the hotel in Paro.

DAY 2 VISIT TIGERS NEST (Taktshang)
Takin Reserve

After breakfast, we begin the hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), one of the most iconic and awe-inspiring landmarks in Bhutan. Dramatically perched on a sheer cliff about 900 meters above the Paro Valley, Taktsang is a sacred site where Guru Padmasambhava is believed to have meditated in the 8th century. The round-trip hike to the monastery typically takes 4 to 6 hours, depending on your fitness level, and rewards you with breathtaking views of pine forests, prayer flags, and the valley below.

DAY 3 PARO TO SHINGKARAP (TREK START)

After enjoying a wholesome breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Zangkipang where the trek begins. The trail is gentle and climbs gradually alongside the Paro River, passing through forests of pine and rhododendron. After about two to three hours of walking and crossing a few small streams, you will arrive at Shingkarap. This open area, with a single traditional house, is commonly used by mountain people as a resting and eating place during their journeys. A short walk further leads you to the campsite, located at an altitude of 3,110 meters.

DAY 4 SHINGKARAP TO SOI THANGKA
Punakha Valley

The path stays close to the Paro River, rising and falling as it passes through pine, oak, and spruce trees. After crossing a small bridge, you will stop for a warm lunch on the left side of the river. The walk then continues uphill through rhododendron bushes, following the river once more. Crossing another bridge brings you to the campsite, which is set at 3,750 meters.

DAY 5 SOI THANGKA TO JANGOTHANG
Punakha Valley

Today’s trek is shorter in distance but involves a steady climb as the trail rises above the forest line. From the campsite, you walk uphill to an army post and then continue along the river in open terrain with wide mountain views. The path can be muddy in places and passes a mani wall before reaching highland areas where yaks graze. Lunch will be served at a yak herder’s hut. After lunch, the trail passes the settlements of Soe and Takethang, where people grow crops such as barley, potatoes, and turnips. The final walk crosses open ground and follows a stream to Dangochang village, leading to the campsite at Jangothang at 4,040 meters. From here, you can enjoy excellent views of Mount Jomolhari and Jichu Drake.
